Did you know that…?
Research at the Animal Health Trust clinic in Newmarket has shown that the Pessoa training harness, when used correctly, has a positive influence on the posture of the riding horse. It appears to strengthen the core muscles without placing increased strain on the tendons and ligaments of the legs. Therefore, this lungeing harness seems suitable both for training riding horses and for rehabilitating horses with ligament and tendon problems in their legs.
Our advice:
This lungeing harness can be excellent for training or rehabilitating riding horses. However, we must point out that incorrect use can negatively impact your horse's health. Therefore, please ensure that you adjust the harness correctly. If you are unsure whether your horse is working correctly with the lungeing harness, seek assistance from a qualified trainer or riding instructor. Please remember that the goal is not simply to make the horse yield its head. The horse should move with an active hind end, a swinging back, and a relaxed cervical spine, maintaining a balanced posture.
Before using the lungeing harness for the first time, your horse should be familiar with the principles and aids of lungeing. Give your horse some time to get used to the new harness. First, make sure it isn't afraid of being touched on its hindquarters, where the back of the harness will later sit. When putting on the lungeing harness for the first time, position yourself correctly at the horse's side and be in a lungeing circle with a non-slip, level surface. First, put on only the back part of the harness and ensure the horse is completely calm and relaxed while lunging before attaching the front part to the bit.
